Partnerships for Education: Building the foundational skills and future leadership for the Open RAN workforce

5 March 2024, Manila, Philippines – The recent partnership between the Asia Open RAN Academy (AORA) and Saylor Academy further reinforces the importance of investing efforts toward the future workforce of Open RAN, through knowledge, skills and leadership development.

Together, AORA and Saylor Academy will pursue to broaden and deep dive into the technical foundation, management and industry-driven approaches, and soft skills necessary for workforce development in Open RAN use cases, deployment, maintenance, and management. AORA Chairperson Vincent “Achie” Atienza highlights the impetus for the partnership and says, “Equipping the current and future workforce for Open RAN should not only focus on the technical skills, but complementary to it, we also need to build the foundational know-how as well as leadership talent.”

Jeff Davidson, Executive Director of Saylor Academy, shares his excitement to partner with AORA to support skills development in Southeast Asia, stating that, “This partnership allows students to develop key skills on-demand, and will help them become even more competitive once they enter the marketplace.”

As part of its advocacy and capacity building efforts that include forging strategic partnerships, building the AORA resource pool (ARP), and offering enrichment activities to enhance the experience of participants enrolled in the Academy, the immediate beneficiaries of this partnership are the partner universities of AORA. The faculty and students of these partner institutions get access to various certification courses offered by Saylor Academy.
