12 July 2024, Makati City, Philippines — The Asia Open RAN Academy (AORA), for the first time, holds a one-day workshop at the PhNOG 2024 Week. The week long bi-annual event is one of the largest gathering of local network operators, telecommunication companies, internet service providers (ISPs), and other internet professionals and practitioners from both the private and public sectors.
One of the sessions during the Workshop Day is Open RAN 101. Engr. Richard Matias of AORA, the main resource speaker of the session, shares, “this is a good venue to share about Open RAN because the PhNOG community is at the forefront of local Internet infrastructure development and contributes to global Internet community development.”
Achie Atienza, PhNOG Chair and AORA Board of Director Chair, says, “Open RAN was identified as a key initiative between USA President Joe Biden and Philippine President Bong-bong Marcos in the two countries’ bilateral agreement. This is a great opportunity for PhNOG to support this.” Atienza adds, “we see Open RAN as a technology framework that would be significant in future Internet development with its potential for interoperability, flexibility, innovation, and scalability of telecommunications infrastructure; as well as its support for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.”
Participants of the workshop were network operators from industry and the academe. The PhNOG 2024 Week was held from July 8-12 at the New World Hotel Makati.
